Semsons Tech Signet Si-Pin - XRF Gold Analyzer for Purity Testing

The exact purity of a gold piece in under a minute, with nothing taken off it.

Acid testing marks the piece, needs chemicals on the counter and gives a karat range, not a figure. The Signet Si-Pin tests by X-ray fluorescence instead. You place the item in the chamber, close it and start the test from your computer. Between 5 and 60 seconds later the screen shows the karat, the purity percentage and every metal found in the alloy. The customer gets the piece back exactly as they handed it over. This model has no screen of its own: it runs from a Windows PC or laptop you already have.

How It Works

A tungsten-target X-ray tube sends a beam at a small spot on the item. The metals in that spot give off X-rays of their own, and each element gives off a different energy. The Si-PIN detector counts those energies, and the Semsons analysis software turns the counts into the list of elements and how much of each is present. From the gold percentage it works out the karat. The beam path is closed inside the machine, and nothing touches the piece.

How to Use It

1. Place the item in the chamber and close it. The HD camera puts the test spot on your screen, so you aim at the metal and not at a stone.
2. Start the test from the software and pick the test time, from 5 seconds for a quick check up to 60 seconds for the most settled reading.
3. Read the result - karat, gold percentage and the full list of elements. Save it against the customer or print it.

Rings, chains, bangles, earrings and pendants, including pieces with stones set in them: the camera lets you aim at the metal beside the stone. Gold coins, biscuits and bars. Scrap and old gold. Silver, platinum and palladium alloys. The catalogue also lists powder and liquid samples. The standard collimator gives a 2 mm test spot, and a 1 mm collimator is available for fine chains and thin parts. The chamber takes items up to 300 × 300 × 100 mm.

What is the Signet Si-Pin?

A benchtop XRF gold analyzer made by Semsons Tech. It measures the purity of gold and other precious metals and lists every element in the alloy, without damaging the piece. It connects to your own Windows PC or laptop.

How much does the Signet Si-Pin cost?

The full product price and the booking amount are shown at the top of this page, and both include GST. The booking amount counts toward the full price, and the balance is due on installation.

Can I buy it online?

No. It is not sold through online checkout. Message or call our sales team to book the machine, and we confirm the order and the balance in writing on your quotation.

How many can I book?

One machine per booking. For more than one, talk to the sales team.

Is delivery free, and how long is dispatch?

Delivery is free. The machine is dispatched about 45 days after booking, and our engineer installs it and trains your operator on site.

Can I return it?

No. This machine is not returnable. If it has a manufacturing defect, a replacement may be offered once our team has inspected the machine and verified the defect, subject to the product and service terms.

Is XRF testing safe for the jewellery?

Yes. The X-ray does not mark the piece or remove any metal. There is no acid, no scratching and no filing, and the item comes out exactly as it went in.

How long does a test take?

You choose between 5 and 60 seconds. A short test suits a quick check at the counter, and a longer test gives a more settled reading when the figure goes on a report.

Which elements can it measure?

Elements from sodium (Na, atomic number 11) to uranium (U, 92). For jewellery that covers gold, silver, platinum, palladium and the metals they are alloyed with, such as copper, zinc and nickel.

Can it detect gold plating or tungsten-filled bars?

XRF measures the metal the X-ray reaches, which is the surface layer of the piece. A plated item or a bar with a hidden core can read as its outer metal. If the weight, feel or origin of a piece does not match its reading, treat it as suspect and check it further before you buy.

Does it need a computer?

Yes. The Signet Si-Pin runs from a Windows PC or laptop, and our engineer installs the software on it. If you want the computer built in, choose the Signet Si-Pin with Touch Screen.

Is installation and training included?

Yes. A Semsons Tech engineer installs the machine, sets up the software and trains your operator on site.
