Where machines fit in a jewellery production line
A manufacturing unit, whether it makes studded gold for export in SEEPZ or bulk silver in Rajkot, runs broadly the same sequence: a wax or metal model is prepared, stones are set (in wax for casting-in-place, or in metal after casting), the piece is melted and cast, rolled or drawn where sheet and wire are needed, joined or marked by laser, tested for purity, then cleaned and finished. Machinery changes the economics at three points:
- Stone setting is the largest single labour cost in studded work. An automatic wax setting machine replaces a bench of 10 to 12 skilled setters with one operator and holds a placement accuracy of ±0.02 mm that hand setting cannot repeat over a long run.
- Cleaning decides how the finished piece looks under a loupe and how quickly QC moves. An ultrasonic cleaner clears polishing compound, wax and plating residue from pavé and chain interiors in 3 to 10 minutes without touching the metal.
- Testing protects the business. XRF reads karat and metal composition in 5 to 60 seconds without scratching or acid, and catches gold plating and tungsten-filled bars that acid and density tests miss.
The consumables that sit around the setting machine, trays, nozzles, silicone and bases, are where a line actually stops. Machine downtime in a setting room is almost always a worn nozzle or an empty tub of silicone, not the machine. That is why they are stocked for same-day dispatch from Mumbai and Rajkot.
Automatic stone setting machines
Semsons Tech lists two automatic wax setting machines. Both use the same trays, nozzles, silicone and mounting bases, both hold ±0.02 mm spot accuracy, and both are run from a touchscreen by an operator who needs no technical background. The difference is stations and throughput.

Which one a unit should buy
The honest rule is throughput, not budget. A double-station machine removes the waiting time between batches, which is where its roughly 20% capacity advantage over a conventional setting machine comes from. If the unit runs continuous export orders with fixed shipping dates, or already has more setting work than a single station clears in a shift, the X4 Pro Plus pays for its extra floor space. A unit taking its first step off manual setting, or doing job work in mixed sizes, is usually better served by the Pro Mini: it sits on a normal workbench, draws 1.3 kW from an ordinary socket, and an operator learns it in about an hour. Both machines set 99% of market jewellery styles.
Both are sold against a booking amount with the balance on installation. Machine prices are given on enquiry because they depend on configuration, delivery point and installation scope. Ask for a quotation with your stone sizes, monthly volume and current setting method, and you will get a direct answer, including when the answer is that you do not need a machine yet.
Diamond sorting trays and suction nozzles
The machine picks each stone from a sorting tray with a suction nozzle sized to the stone. Using a nozzle outside its size band is the most common cause of dropped stones and pickup failures on an automatic setting line. Five nozzles and five trays cover round stones from 0.8 mm to 3.0 mm:

Trays for 2.0 mm and larger use a deep-pocket grid. A larger stone needs a deeper seat to stay table-up while the arm indexes; a tipped stone is a missed pickup. That is why capacity drops from 3,200 to 800 stones per load above 2.0 mm. All trays take natural diamond, lab-grown diamond (CVD and HPHT), CZ and synthetic rounds. Setting silicone and mounting bases
Wax setting silicone holds the wax model still while stones are placed. It is supplied as a two-tub set, SSMAB-01A (tub A, white) and SSMAB-01B (tub B, purple), and as a two-part AB silicone putty. The wax model itself sits on a 76 mm base with a locating stud, a precision-machined disc that fixes the model's coordinates during the setting run. Bases are a structural spare: they are replaced when the disc face wears, the stud shifts out of perpendicular or corrosion sets in, and are sold singly or in 1 kg and 2 kg packs. Ultrasonic cleaning
The Semsons Tech ultrasonic cleaner runs at 40 kHz, the standard jewellery cleaning frequency, with a SUS304 stainless steel tank and basket, a digital timer from 0 to 30 minutes with auto shut-off, and a heater adjustable up to 80 °C. Sandwich-type piezoelectric transducers keep cavitation even across the tank, which is what reaches prong undersides, chain-link interiors and engraved detail that a brush cannot. A typical cycle is 3 to 10 minutes. Capacities run from 0.6 L countertop units to 30 L industrial tanks, and a dual-frequency 28/40 kHz configuration is available for units that also strip casting plaster and heavy polishing compound. Tank size should follow batch size: a tank that forces two runs per batch costs more in handling than the larger unit costs to buy.
Gold purity testing
The portable XRF gold analyzer tests gold, silver and platinum purity in 5 to 60 seconds with no scratching and no acid. It reads 0 to 24 karat at 0.01 to 0.03% accuracy, reports the full metal breakdown across 15 elements, alerts on gold plating, and detects tungsten-filled bars, the fake that acid and density tests miss. The chamber is sealed and lead-shielded, the X-ray cuts off the moment the door opens, and the unit meets BIS, IEC and FDA radiation safety standards. Installation includes a radiation safety check and calibration by a Semsons technician. Jewellers, bullion traders, gold loan branches, refineries and hallmarking centres are the usual buyers.
Where India makes jewellery, and what each hub buys
Roughly ten manufacturing centres produce 75 to 80% of India's jewellery, and they specialise. Because the equipment a unit needs follows what it makes, the sensible starting point is the hub it sits in. How many stones per hour does an automatic wax setting machine set?
The Semsons X4 Pro Plus double-station machine sets 12,000 stones per hour across all stations from a four-tray feed holding 12,800 stones. The single-station Pro Mini sets up to 10,000 stones per hour. Both place stones to ±0.02 mm.
How many manual setters does one machine replace?
The X4 Pro Plus does the work of 10 to 12 skilled manual setters; the Pro Mini does the work of about 10. One operator runs either machine from a touchscreen after on-site training that takes about an hour.
What power and air supply does a setting machine need?
Both machines run on ordinary single-phase 220 V. The X4 Pro Plus draws 3 kVA at peak; the Pro Mini draws 1.3 kW. The Pro Mini needs a compressed-air supply at 80 psi (0.4 MPa); the X4 Pro Plus air requirement is confirmed with the installation survey. No three-phase connection is required.
Which nozzle and tray do I need for my stone size?

Can the same machine set stones in gold and silver?
Yes. Setting is governed by stone size and the wax model, not by the metal. Both machines are used for gold, silver, brass and other metals, which is why the same equipment serves Rajkot's silver lines and Mumbai's gold export units.
