Every tray takes natural diamond, lab-grown diamond (CVD and HPHT), CZ and synthetic rounds. Each tray is numbered for its size band; DSSMT-01, for example, carries tray numbers 08-09 for 0.8 to 0.9 mm and 10-11-12 for 1.0 to 1.2 mm, which is how the operator confirms the band at a glance.
Standard or wide-format: which tray?
Both hold the same stone sizes. The difference is stones per load against bench layout. A standard DSSMT tray in the small-stone bands holds 3,200 stones in a 40 × 80 grid; the wide-format equivalent holds 2,550 in a 30 × 85 grid across a wider, shallower footprint. In the large-stone bands the standard tray holds 800 stones (20 × 40 deep pocket) against 735 for the wide format (15 × 49). Choose the standard tray for the most stones per load; choose the wide format where the machine layout or the loading routine suits a wider grid.
Why trays above 2.0 mm are deep-pocket
Trays for 2.0 mm and larger use a deep-pocket grid with a (Z5) pitch rather than the (Z10) pitch of the small-stone trays. A larger stone needs a deeper seat to sit table-up and stay seated while the arm indexes; a shallow pocket lets it tip, and a tipped stone is a missed pickup. That is also why capacity drops from 3,200 to 800 stones: the pockets are bigger. The matching 504 nozzle is calibrated for the higher pickup force a heavier stone needs.
When to replace a nozzle
Nozzles are consumable wear items: a precision-machined steel tip with a rubber sealing sleeve on a stainless shaft, picking the stone up by vacuum suction through the tip aperture. Replace a nozzle when pickup consistency drops. A worn sleeve shows up as intermittent misses on stones that used to pick cleanly, long before the tip looks worn. Keeping one spare of each nozzle in use is the cheapest insurance against a stopped line.

Can one nozzle handle more than one stone size?
Within its band, yes. The 503B covers 1.5 to 1.9 mm, and the 504 covers 2.0 to 3.0 mm. Outside the band, no: suction is sized to the stone, so an undersized nozzle will not lift the stone and an oversized one will not release it cleanly.
Do I need a separate tray for every stone size?
No. Five trays cover 0.8 to 3.0 mm. Most workshops running mixed melee keep DSSMT-01 and DSSMT-02 in constant use and add the larger trays as centre-stone work requires.
Which tray does the 503B nozzle pair with?
